A Passion for Learning
One Forest was created by Danielle Winkel, an experienced Montessori teacher and lifelong learner. Upon completion of her Montessori training, she went on to teach in three different schools in Mississauga, Brampton and Oakville. During the course of working with over 300 children in her 12 years of teaching, Danielle spent countless hours observing and documenting how children learn. Her continued studies in education, psychology and brain plasticity led her to develop a deeper understanding in this area. Armed with this knowledge and experience, she started using these research based methods in her classroom and with her own children.
After moving to Kitchener, she began to search for a school for her son that reflected her educational philosophy. During this process, she was offered the opportunity to collaborate with with an established local business to start her own school. With great excitement, One Forest was born!
Curiosity — Children are naturally curious and they want to learn. Our classroom provides a stimulating environment with the flexibility to follow their curiosity.
Connection — Studies show that children learn more from people they have a connection to. We can give your child the time and attention needed to build that connection. Mixed age groups also provide an excellent opportunity for children to learn from one another.
Core Skills — Teachers act as guides, observing how children are developing skills in each area of the curriculum, including the core skills of Math and Language. Lessons from the teacher are offered to each child based on their interests and individual learning plan.
